STEERING ANGLE SENSOR CALIBRATION

The following procedure is required to properly calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor on 2002 - 2003 model year Sienna vehicles equipped with the Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) System.

This information supplements the Repair Manual procedures when correcting "VSC" and "VSC OFF" lights caused by any of the following conditions:
- Adjusting tie rods for a steering wheel off-center.
- Performing a four-wheel alignment.
- Improper calibration of the steering angle sensor.
- Replacement of the steering angle sensor.
- Replacement of the VSC ECU.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2002 - 2003 model year Sienna vehicles with Vehicle Skid Control.

REQUIRED TOOLS & MATERIALS:

CALIBRATION PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Ensure that the steering wheel is level (on center) prior to calibration of the steering angle sensor.

1. Using the SST, connect terminals TS and E1 of DLC1.
2. Turn the ignition switch "ON".
3. Verify that the shift lever is in the Park ("P") range.
4. Press the "TRAC OFF" switch and hold it.*
5. Depress the brake pedal 3 or more times within 2 seconds.
6. Check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
a) If the VSC buzzer sounds, go to step 7.
b) If the VSC buzzer does not sound, go to step 2 and repeat the procedure.

NOTE:
If the VSC buzzer STILL will not sound, there is a malfunction in the steering angle sensor. Check for DTCs.

7. The sensor calibration is normal and complete.

* The "TRAC OFF" switch is located where the low tire pressure warning reset switch is on non-VSC equipped Sienna vehicles. Sienna vehicles equipped with VSC are not equipped with the Low Tire Pressure Warning System.
