Seat Occupant Sensor: Service and Repair
Occupant Classification ECU:
OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
REMOVAL
NOTE:
- If the wiring connector of the SRS is disconnected with the ignition switch in the ON position, DTCs will be recorded.
- Never use SRS parts from another vehicle. When replacing the parts, replace them with new ones.
- Never reuse an occupant classification ECU if an airbag has previously deployed in a collision.
- Remove the front seat cushion cover pad and front seat cushion cover together, in order to avoid occupant classification sensor malfunctions.
1. READ IN OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU DATA
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation..
3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK BOARD SUBASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD RH
6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH
7. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD INNER RH
8. REMOVE SEAT TRACK LOWER RAIL PROTECTOR
9. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 SEAT CUSHION SHIELD INNER RH
10. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
a. Disconnect the connector from the the occupant classification ECU.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and front side seat bracket.
c. Remove the 2 bolts and ECU from the bracket.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
- Never use SRS parts from another vehicle. When replacing the parts, replace them with new ones.
- Never reuse an occupant classification ECU involved in a collision when the airbag has deployed.
- If the occupant classification ECU has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace it with a new one.
- When installing the occupant classification ECU, make sure that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and that it is not pinched between other parts.
- After installing shake the occupant classification ECU to check that there is no looseness.
- Remove the front seat cushion cover pad and front seat cushion cover together, in order to avoid occupant classification sensor malfunctions.
- Replace the occupant classification ECU, occupant classification sensor, seat cushion cover pad, seat cushion cover and seat cushion seat heater as a set.
1. INSTALL OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
NOTE: Replace the occupant classification ECU, occupant classification sensor, seat cushion cover pad, seat cushion cover and seat cushion seat heater as a 5 part set.
a. Check that the ignition switch is OFF.
b. Check that the negative battery (-) terminal is disconnected.
CAUTION: After disconnecting the negative battery terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.
c. Install the ECU to the bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 3.0 N.m (31 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf)
d. Install the bracket with the 2 bolts.
e. Connect the connector to the occupant classification ECU.
NOTE:
- If the occupant classification ECU has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace it with a new one.
- When installing the occupant classification ECU, make sure that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and that it is not pinched between other parts.
- When replacing the occupant classification ECU, replace the bolt with a new one.
2. INSTALL FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 SEAT CUSHION SHIELD INNER RH
4. INSTALL FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD RH
5. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH
6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD INNER RH
7. INSTALL FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLY
8. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
9. INSERT OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU DATA
10. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK
11. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check SRS warning light.
