Exterior Moulding / Trim: Service and Repair
OUTSIDE MOULDINGOutside Moulding:
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE OUTSIDE MOULDING
a. Put protective tape around the outside moulding.
b. Using a heat light, heat the moulding between 40 to 60°C (104 to 140°F).
NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
c. Tie both piano wire ends to a wooden block or a similar object.
d. Cut off the tape by pulling the piano wire and remove the outside moulding with reference pins remaining on the moulding.
NOTE:
- If reusing the outside moulding, take care not to damage the outside moulding.
- Do not damage the body.
- Be careful of the reference pins on the outside moulding when removing the outside moulding.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL OUTSIDE MOULDING
a. Using a heat light, heat the mounting surface of the vehicle body between 40 to 60°C (104 to 140°F).
NOTE: Do not heat the body excessively.
b. Remove the tape from the vehicle body.
c. Wipe off the stains with cleaner.
d. Clean the outside moulding (if reusing the outside moulding)
1. Using a heat light, heat the outside moulding between 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F).
NOTE: Do not heat the outside moulding excessively.
2. Remove the tape from the outside moulding.
3. Wipe off the stains with cleaner.
4. Apply new tape to the outside moulding as shown in the illustration.
e. Match the reference pins on the outside moulding with the reference holes on the vehicle body.
f. Using a heat light, heat the vehicle body and outside moulding.
NOTE: Do not heat the body and outside moulding excessively.
g. Release the peeling paper from the face of the outside moulding and attach the outside moulding securely to the vehicle body.
NOTE: Be careful that dirt or foreign objects do not stick to adhesive part when releasing the peeling paper.
h. Push the outside moulding to the body.
