Applicability
Introduction
Some Sienna vehicles may exhibit a condition where the power rear hatch will not close completely. When operating the rear hatch in power mode the hatch will start to close then auto reverse back to the open position before completely closing. The Power Back Door Unit has been updated to address this condition.

Repair Procedure
1. Inspect the vehicle to verify the condition.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
3. Remove the quarter trim panel assembly front left-hand (LH).
A. Remove the floor anchor cover.
B. Remove the bolt and disconnect the rear No.2 seat belt on the floor anchor side.
C. Remove the 2 package holder net hooks.
D. Using a plastic pry tool disengage the claw and remove the courtesy lamp.
E. Disconnect the courtesy lamp connectors.
F. Using a plastic pry tool disengage the 16 clips and remove the quarter trim panel assembly.
4. Remove the right rear (RR) window side garnish assembly No.2 LH.
Using a screwdriver disengage the 2 clips and remove the window side garnish assembly.
HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
5. Remove the RR window side garnish assembly LH.
A. Remove the bolt and screw.
B. 7 Passenger:
Using a plastic pry tool disengage the 4 clips and remove the window side garnish assembly.
C. 8 Passenger:
Using a plastic pry tool disengage the 4 clips and 4 claws and remove the window side garnish assembly.
6. Remove the power back door drive unit by removing the 3 bolts.
7. Install the NEW power back door drive unit.
A. Install the drive unit with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 12.5 N*m (112 kgf*cm, 9 ft*lbf)
B. Reset the drive unit.

HINT
Installation is in reverse order of disassembly.
8. Install the RR window side garnish assembly LH.
A. Install the bolt and screw.
B. 7 Passenger:
Engage the 4 clips and install the window side garnish assembly.
C. 8 Passenger:
Engage the 4 clips and 4 claws and install the window side garnish assembly.
HINT
Installation is in reverse order of disassembly.
8. Install the RR window side garnish assembly LH.
A. Install the bolt and screw.
B. 7 Passenger:
Engage the 4 clips and install the window side garnish assembly.
C. 8 Passenger:
Engage the 4 clips and 4 claws and install the window side garnish assembly.
9. Install the right rear (RR) window side garnish assembly No.2 LH with the 2 clips.
10. Install the quarter trim panel assembly front left-hand (LH).
A. Install the 16 clips and the quarter trim panel assembly.
B. Reconnect the courtesy lamp connectors.
C. Install the claw and the courtesy lamp.
D. Install the 2 package holder net hooks.
E. Install the bolt and reconnect the rear No.2 seat belt on the floor anchor side.
Torque: 42 N*m (430 kgf*cm, 31 ft*lbf)
F. Reinstall the floor anchor cover.
11. Reconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
HINT
When the battery is reconnected, the back door is locked and cannot be opened. Therefore, it is necessary to unlock the back door using the door control switch or transmitter switch.
12. Initialize the power rear hatch.

13. Operate the power rear hatch to confirm proper operation.
