Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

EXHAUST PIPE

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
2. REMOVE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY CENTER
a. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs, then separate the exhaust pipe center.
b. Separate the 4 insulators from the exhaust tail pipe, then remove the exhaust pipe center.
4. REMOVE EXHAUST FRONT PIPE ASSEMBLY NO. 2
a. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, then separate the exhaust front pipe No. 2 from the exhaust front pipe.
b. Remove the 2 nuts, then separate the exhaust front pipe No. 2 from the exhaust manifold LH.
c. Separate the insulator, then remove the exhaust front pipe No. 2.
5. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT
a. Remove the 2 nuts, then remove the exhaust front pipe.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT
a. Install a new gasket onto the exhaust manifold RH.
b. Install the exhaust front pipe with the new 2 nuts.
Torque: 62 Nm (632 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.)
2. INSTALL EXHAUST FRONT PIPE ASSEMBLY NO. 2
a. Install a new gasket onto the exhaust manifold LH.
b. Install a new gasket onto the exhaust front pipe.
c. Install the exhaust front pipe No. 2 onto the insulator.
d. Install the exhaust front pipe No. 2 onto the exhaust manifold LH with the new 2 nuts.
Torque: 62 Nm (632 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.)
e. Install the exhaust front pipe No. 2 onto the exhaust front pipe with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 48 Nm (489 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.)





f. Install a new gasket onto the exhaust front pipe No. 2.
(1) Using a wooden block and plastic- faced hammer, tap in a new gasket until it is flush with the exhaust front pipe No. 2.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure that the gasket is in the correct direction when installing.
^ Do not reuse the removed gasket.





3. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY CENTER
a. Check the free length.
(1) Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Minimum: 40.5 mm (1.594 inch)
If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.
b. Install the exhaust tail pipe onto the 4 insulators.
c. Install the exhaust pipe center onto the exhaust front pipe No. 2 with the 2 bolts and 2 springs.
Torque: 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
4. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Torque: 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.)
6. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKAGE
