Tire Monitor System - Initialization Procedure

PRE-DELIVERY SERVICE
PD075-06

Title:
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

Models:
'07 Tacoma

August 8, 2006

Introduction

The 2007 model year Tacoma is equipped with a direct-type Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS). A Tire Pressure Warning System valve/sensor is mounted into each tire (including the spare tire), and the measured tire pressure data is transmitted through a Tire Pressure Warning System antenna/receiver to the TPWS ECU.

During Pre-Delivery Service (PDS), the tire pressure must be set to the specification as indicated on the Vehicle Loading and Tire Information label, located inside the driver's door jam. Then initialize the TPWS by pressing the Tire Pressure Warning System "SET" switch.

NOTE:
The Tire Pressure Warning System valves/sensors are activated at the manufacturing plant. Only the initialization process is required during PDS.

Initialization Procedure

1. Adjust all tires (including the spare tire) to the standard tire inflation pressure, as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label on the vehicle.

NOTE:

^ If there is great difference between the current temperature of the tire and wheel (for example: shop temperature) and expected temperature (for example: outdoor temperature), this needs to be considered when adjusting the tire pressure.

^ Adjust the tire pressure when the tires are cold.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and check that the the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light is OFF.

3. Push and hold the Tire Pressure Warning "SET" Switch for 3 seconds until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks 3 times and then turns OFF, meaning the system is now initialized.

4. Connect the Diagnostic Tester to DLC3.

5. Select the Tire Pressure Warning System Data List.

6. Confirm that each tire pressure on the Diagnostic Tester Data List shows the set value from step 1.

^ If the tire pressure is correct, initialization is complete. Go to step 7.

^ If the tire pressure is incorrect, check the tire pressure gauge and repeat steps 1 - 6.

7. Remove the ID number labels that are attached to each wheel and place the labels in the glove box.
