INTRODUCTION:
Some customers may complain that the upholstery wire in the front seat foam cushion is felt through the seat back on Access and Double Cab models. New seat back pads are now available to address this condition.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2005 - 2007 model year Tacoma Access Cab and Double Cab vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the negative battery terminal.
NOTE
Wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding.
2. Remove the 4 bolts securing the seat to the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the seat electrical connections under the seat and remove the seat assembly from the vehicle.
4. Remove the front seat headrest assembly. Disengage the lock button.
5. Lay the seat upside down and remove the 2 hog rings securing the seat cover flap to the bottom of the seat.
6. Remove the 3 hog rings located underneath the seat cover flap.
7. Remove the 4 hog rings on the front of the seatback bottom. There are two hog rings securing the rods at each location.
8. Once the 4 hog rings are removed slide the metal rods out of the seat cover. Recline the seat back to allow clearance.
9. Carefully start to remove the seat cover from the seat back to gain access to the hog rings securing the center of the seat cover to the seat back.
10. Remove the two hog rings securing the middle of the seat cover to the seat back pad
11. On vehicles equipped with front seat side airbags remove the nut on the back of the seat securing the airbag strap. When reinstalling torque the nut to Torque: [5.5 N-m 49 in-lbf]
NOTE
Make note of the routing of the airbag straps through the seat back pad for ease of assembly.
CAUTION
The seat cover must be securely installed for proper side airbag deployment. Make sure that the strap is not twisted after installing the inner hook. Install the inner hook securely.
12. Remove the headrest supports from the seat and remove the seat cover.
13. Replace the seat back pad with the new service part.
14. Reinstall the seat cover in reverse order with new hog rings.
NOTE
When installing the metal rods removed in step 9 be sure that the top of the rods are positioned under the horizontal rod molded into the seat back pad. See Illustration.
15. Reinstall the seat assembly.
Torque: 37 N-m 27 ft-lbf)
16. Reconnect the seat electrical connections.
17. Reconnect the battery cable.
