Introduction

To improve tail gate loading and unloading performance, a new reinforced tail gate is now available. When replacing a bent tail gate, use the following information to address this condition.

Applicable Vehicles

^ 2005 - 2008 model year Tacoma vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown in this TSB.

Warranty Information

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

NOTE:
For more information on installation of the tail gate reinforcement, refer (TIS), 2007 model year Tacoma Repair Manual:

^ Vehicle Exterior - Door/Hatch - "Engine Hood/Door: Tail Gate: Components"

^ Vehicle Exterior - Door/Hatch - "Engine Hood / Door: Tail Gate: Disassembly"

1. Remove all components from the old tail gate.

Save all parts for installation on the new tail gate.

When removing the protector, close the tail gate and use caution NOT to bend the protector. Start by lifting up on the ends and work towards the center.

2. Send tail gate to body shop for painting.

Remove protective layer on anti-theft label located under bottom left of tail gate, after tail gate has been painted.

3. Reassemble the tail gate. Refer to TIS:

^ 2006 or 2007 model year Tacoma Repair Manual, Vehicle Exterior - Door/Hatch - "Engine Hood / Door: Tail Gate: Reassembly".
