Applicability

Introduction

Some 2005 - 2009 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit an instrument panel rattle or tick noise below the glove box area. The faint noise is most evident when accelerating slowly between the 1000 - 1600 RPM range. The rattle has been found to be coming from a wire harness cover coming into contact with the HVAC bracket. Use the following repair information to correct this condition.

This TSB applies to all 2005 - 2009 model year vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.





Required Tools & Equipment

Repair Procedure





1. Locate the point of contact at the wire harness cover to the HVAC bracket shown in Figure 1.





2. Remove the wire harness grommet (clip) from the HVAC bracket as shown in Figure 2.

NOTICE

Be careful NOT to damage the wire harness grommet (clip) when removing since this clip will be reused.





3. Apply EPT foam to the edge of the HVAC bracket at the point of contact and wrap it to the underside of the bracket as shown in Figure 3.

Width = 30 mm (1.20 in.)
Length = 40 mm (1.60 in.)
Height = 10 mm (0.40 in.)

4. Re-install the wire harness grommet (clip) previously removed in step 2.

5. Test drive and confirm noise is no longer present.
