Applicability

Introduction





Some 2005 - 2010 Tacoma vehicles may exhibit an instrument panel rattle or buzz noise coming from above the glove box. Use the following repair information to correct this condition.

Production Change Information





This TSB applies to vehicles built BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

Repair Procedure





1. Remove the glove box. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model year Repair Manual.





A. Disengage the claw and separate the glove compartment door stopper (plunger) from the glove compartment door assembly.

B. Slightly deform the upper part of the glove compartment door assembly to release the 2 stoppers and open the glove compartment door assembly until it becomes horizontal.





C. Pull the glove compartment door assembly toward the rear of the vehicle to release the 3 hinges and remove the glove compartment door assembly.

D. Remove the glove compartment door stopper.

2. Remove the instrument panel lower finish panel sub-assembly RH.





A. Remove the bolt.

B. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument panel lower finish panel sub-assembly RH.





3. Locate the 5 airbag bracket tab locations as shown in Figures 5 and 6.

4. Confirm proper felt position.





A. Felt should be directly between tabs and instrument panel as shown in Figure 9. If the felt is out of position as shown in Figure 8 proceed to Step 5.

NOTE

If the felt is out of position it can cause the tabs to contact the instrument panel resulting in a raffle.








B. If the felt is properly aligned STOP The source of noise is coming from a different location. This TSB does NOT apply.





5. Remove the 2 screws holding the door control lock receiver as shown in Figure 10.








6. Reposition felt so the felt is underneath the tab as shown in Figures 11 and 12.

NOTE

The plastic instrument panel holding the felt can be slightly pressed to reposition the felt.





7. Reinstall the glove box and door lock receiver in the reverse order. Refer to TIS applicable model year Repair Manual.

8. Test drive and confirm noise is no longer present.
