Variable Valve Timing Actuator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

NOTE:
- Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
- After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
4. REMOVE FRONT WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the front wiper motor and link assembly.

5. REMOVE FRONT COWL TOP OUTER PANEL SUBASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
7. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR CLEANER HOSE
8. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH ELEMENT
9. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY




10. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.




11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.
b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.
c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.

INSTALLATION




1. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.




b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked when installing the oil control valve.

c. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.




2. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring of the oil control valve.




b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked when installing the oil control valve.

c. Connect the oil control valve connector.

3. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH ELEMENT
5. INSTALL NO. 2 AIR CLEANER HOSE
6. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

NOTE: Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

7. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
8. INSPECT FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK
9. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
10. INSTALL FRONT COWL TOP OUTER PANEL SUBASSEMBLY

11. INSTALL FRONT WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY
a. Install the front wiper motor and link assembly.

12. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
