Title
M.I.L. "ON" DTC P0705 with Fuse Open

Component
Electrical

Models
'07 Tundra

INTRODUCTION:

Some customers of 2007 model year Tundra trucks equipped with a floor-mounted shift lever may complain of a M.I.L. "ON" with DTC P0705 (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction [PRNDL input]) combined with any of the following customer complaints after towing a trailer using the 7-pin trailer harness connector:
- Concerns with the PRNDL display on instrument cluster
- Transfer case cannot be shifted into or out of 4WD Low
- Delayed or harsh shifting into or out of Reverse or Drive

Replacement of the back-up lamp fuse and installation of a new sub-wire harness will prevent this condition from recurring. The new sub-wire harness changes the power supply from the back-up lamp circuit to the IG1 circuit. Follow the procedures detailed in this bulletin to address customer concerns.

NOTE
This TSB does NOT apply to 2007 model year Tundra trucks equipped with column shift lever assemblies.

IMPORTANT NOTE
If this TSB applies, customer repair of the trailer wire harness will be necessary to prevent repeat failures of the fuse. Trailer-side wiring harness issues such as short circuits or an incorrectly wired trailer harness are NOT warrantable. Repair of the trailer wire harness is NOT covered under Warranty and is the customer's responsibility.

Diagnostic Procedure:

1. Using Techstream, confirm that M.I.L. "ON" and DTC P0705 is stored.
2. Confirm conditions when the M.I.L. "ON" occurred with the customer:

Did the customer notice the Check Engine light ON or any of the other complaints listed in the introduction while towing a trailer or after towing a trailer?
- YES - This TSB applies. Go to step 3.
- NO - This TSB does NOT apply.

Refer to the Repair Manual within E-TAS / TIS library:
- Model: Tundra
- Year: 2007
- Service Category: Drivetrain
- Section: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
- Keyword: "AB60E / AB60F / A750E (2UZ-FE) / A750F Automatic Transmission: Automatic Transmission System: P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)"

3. Check the 10 amp "back-up lamp" fuse for an open circuit.

NOTE
- The back-up lamp fuse is listed as "BK/UP LP" on the fuse block assembly.
- The back-up lamp fuse is located in the fuse block on the left side of the passenger compartment below the dashboard near the left front kick panel.

Does the back-up lamp fuse have an open circuit?
- YES - Continue with this TSB. Go to step 4.
- NO - This TSB does NOT apply.

Refer to the Repair Manual within E-TAS / TIS library:
- Model: Tundra
- Year: 2007
- Service Category: Drivetrain
- Section: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
- Keyword: "AB60E / AB60F / A750E (2UZ-FE) / A750F Automatic Transmission: Automatic Transmission System: P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)"

4. Replace the back-up lamp fuse.
5. Using Techstream, clear all DTCs and confirm a DTC does NOT return when the shifter is moved through all gear positions. If a DTC returns, refer to the Repair Manual for further diagnosis.
- If the back-up lamp fuse has another open circuit - inspect the circuit for the root cause of the high current condition.

NOTE
A damaged 7-pin trailer wire harness connector can cause this DTC.

- If the back-up lamp fuse does NOT experience an open circuit, proceed to the Repair Procedure to install the NEW sub-wire harness.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Note all radio presets and customer preferences prior to disconnecting battery.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

3. Remove the right side front door sill trim plate.

NOTE
There are 5 sets of clips that retain the door sill trim to the vehicle.

4. Remove the lower (main) glove box.
5. Remove the lower trim panel.
6. Remove the right front kick trim panel.

A. Remove the plastic nut, then remove the kick panel.

B. Note the location of the 2 plastic clips retaining the kick panel after the panel is removed.

7. Remove the upper glove box.
A. Remove the plastic blind plugs inside the upper glove box.

B. Remove the 6 screws retaining the upper glove box. See Figure 5 for location of screws.

HINT
Two of the screws are located behind the plastic blind plugs.

8. Prepare sub-wire harness for installation in the vehicle.

A. Install the relay into the sub-wire harness.

B. Wrap the relay with foam tape

9. Find the white 18-pin connector JK2 (located to the right of the passenger airbag assembly) and remove the foam tape from the sub-wire harness attached to connector JK2. (Refer to Figures 10 and 11.)

HINT
JK2 is the 18-pin connector above the 20-pin connector JK1.

10. Locate the green wire coming from pin 3 of connector JK2 and install the wire tap from the NEW sub-wire harness.

HINT
With the sub-wire harness lying on the floor, route the green wire inside of the dash in front of the instrument panel support tube.

11. Wrap the sub-wire harness connection with foam tape.

12. Using plastic tie wrap, retain the green wire to the instrument panel support tube making sure to allow enough slack to ensure NO load upon wire tap as shown in Figure 14.

13. Locate the harness-to-harness connectors in the right front kick panel.

Identify connectors:
- AJ2 (11-pin white connector)
- AJ4 (20-pin white connector)

14. Unplug connectors AJ2 (11-pin white connector) and AJ4 (20-pin white connector).

15. Connect AJ2 (11 pin) and AJ4 (20 pin) into the female 11-pin and 20-pin connectors of the NEW sub-wire harness.
16. Plug the male 11-pin and 20-pin connectors from the NEW sub-wire harness into the original locations where the 11-pin and 20-pin connectors AJ2 and AJ4 were located.
17. Install the sub-wire harness ground eyelet.

A. Locate instrument panel ground point J3.
B. Remove the retaining bolt and install the ground eyelet from the NEW sub-wire harness onto the J3 retaining bolt (closest to the bolt head).

18. Retighten the bolt retaining all ground points in the same location.

19. Using plastic wire tie, mount the relay from the NEW sub-wire harness in the location shown.

HINT
Wire tie can be inserted through the relay block support as shown.

20. Using additional wire tie straps, restrict the movement of the new sub-wire harness to prevent rattle.
21. Reassemble interior trim in reverse order of removal.
22. Recommend that the customer inspect the harness of any trailer connected to the vehicle.
