REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTICE:
^ Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
^ After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
5. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the propeller shaft.
6. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
(a) for Regular Cab Standard Deck: Remove the front exhaust pipe.
(b) except Regular Cab Standard Deck: Remove the front exhaust pipe.
7. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the transmission control cable.
8. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
(a) Remove the bolt and flywheel housing under cover.
(b) Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove each bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.
9. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
10. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUBASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.
(b) Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts, 4 washers and crossmember.
11. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine mounting insulator from the transmission.
12. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
(b) Tilt the transmission downward.
NOTICE: Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
(c) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector and 2 speed sensor connectors.
HINT: Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
(d) Disconnect the 4 connector clamps and 4 harness clamps.
(e) Remove the bolt and disconnect the harness clamp and wire harness.
13. DISCONNECT NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ Trailer Towing System)
(a) Remove the bolt and hose heat protector.
(b) Disconnect the 2 hoses from the transmission oil cooler.
(c) Remove the bolt and disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses from the transmission oil cooler, and separate the by-pass pipe from the automatic transmission.
NOTICE: Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.
14. DISCONNECT NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/o Trailer Towing System)
(a) Remove the bolt and hose heat protector.
(b) Remove the bolt and disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses from the transmission oil cooler, and separate the by-pass pipe from the automatic transmission.
NOTICE: Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.
15. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
NOTICE: Do not use excess force when prying the transmission assembly.
16. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/ Trailer Towing System)
(a) Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and transmission oil cooler with transmission oil thermostat.
(c) Remove the 3 bolts and separate the oil cooler from the transmission oil thermostat.
(d) Remove the 2 O-rings.
17. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/o Trailer Towing System)
(a) Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and transmission oil cooler with transmission oil cooler spacer.
(c) Remove the 3 bolts and separate the transmission oil cooler from the transmission oil cooler spacer.
(d) Remove the 2 O-rings.
18. REMOVE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 brackets.
19. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
20. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
21. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Inspect the torque converter clutch.
