Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. INSPECT FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.
If any defect has been found, replace the belt.
HINT: Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable. If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be replaced.
(b) Check by hand that the belt fits properly in the ribbed grooves and has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the crank pulley.
2. INSPECT V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that nothing gets caught in the tensioner by turning it clockwise and counterclockwise. If a malfunction exists, replace the tensioner.
