TSB No. EL001-08 is Obsolete and any printed versions should be discarded. Be sure to review the entire content of this service bulletin before proceeding.
Introduction
For vehicles that exhibit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B0111 and/or B0116 a new service part has been made available for 2005-2008 model year Sienna vehicles. Please refer to the following enhanced repair instructions for the proper installation procedure of the new service parts.
NOTE: This TSB is not applicable to 2004 MY Sienna. If you encounter a 2004 MY Sienna with code B0111/B0116, diagnose per Repair Manual. If it is determined that the root cause is related to the side squib, the seat back will need to be replaced.
Warranty Information
APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
- This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
- Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

- Additional TIS techstream units may be ordered by calling Approved Dealer Equipment (ADE).
- The Toyota Diagnostic Tester and CAN Interface Module may also be used to perform the service procedures listed in this bulletin.
Airbag Disposal
Please refer to TSB No. SS004-07 "SRS Component Disposal as Hazardous Material Treatment" for proper disposal method of the side airbag assembly.
Diagnostic Procedure
Follow the diagnostic procedure:
- B0111 Open In Side Squib RH Circuit
- B0116 Open In Side Squib LH Circuit

NOTE: If no concern is identified after inspecting the floor harness and the center airbag sensor assembly, please follow the repair procedure below to replace the corresponding side airbag assembly.
Repair Procedure: Manual Seat
Manual Seat (Driver and Passenger):
CAUTION:
- Always wear safety gloves because the edges of the seatback frame and seat adjuster are sharp and may cause injury.
- Work must be started more than 90 seconds AFTER the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy.)
NOTE:
- BEFORE starting, confirm the seat is a manual seat and NOT a fold flat seat.
- Installation is in the reverse order of removal. However, special points concerning installation are indicated.
- Use the same procedure for the driver and the passenger seat. Be careful NOT to damage the body.
1. Remove the headrest assembly.
2. Remove the front seat assembly.

A. Using the plastic pry tool pry off the 2 seat track covers.
B. Disconnect the connectors under the seat assembly.
C. Remove the 4 bolts and the seat assembly.
NOTE: Place protective cover over door sill. Be careful NOT to damage the body.
3. Remove the front seat side table leg cover by using the plastic pry tool and disengaging the claws.
4. Remove the front seat side table.
A. Remove the 4 nuts and seat side table.
B. Remove the 2 clips and seat side table cover.
5. Remove the vertical seat adjuster knob (driver seat only).
A. Remove the screw and the vertical seat adjuster knob.

6. Remove the reclining adjuster release handle by using the plastic pry tool and disengaging the claws.
7. Remove the lower carpet trim piece from the seatback.
8. Remove the outer seat cushion shield.

B. Using the plastic pry tool disengage the claws.
9. Remove the front seatback board.

A. Disengage the clips.
B. Remove the seatback board.
10. Remove the armrest assembly.

A. Using the plastic pry tool remove the armrest cap.
B. Remove the bolt and armrest.

11. Remove the lumbar support knob (driver seat only) by using a shop rag and removing the snap and lumbar support knob.
12. Remove the inner seat cushion shield.
A. Remove the screw.
B. Using the plastic pry tool disengage the claws.
13. Remove the seatback cover with pad.

A. Remove the 12 hog rings and disengage the hooks.
B. Remove the bolt and disengage the seatback cover bracket.
C. Remove the 2 seat cover clips from the lower edge of the seatback frame.

D. Remove the front seat headrest support by disengaging the claw while sliding the seat cover oft.
14. Remove the side airbag.
A. Remove the 2 nuts for the side airbag.
B. Remove the 1 clip holding the airbag wire harness.
NOTE: The remaining 5 clips holding the wire harness will be removed when installing the new airbag and wire harness.
15. Install the NEW side airbag assembly.
A. Place the side airbag into the seat frame with the wire harness on the top.

B. Secure the side airbag with 2 NEW nuts.
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf)

C. Using Figures 33 through 39 remove the original wire harness while routing the new wire harness and attach the 6 retaining clips to the seat frame.

16. Install the seatback pad and then the cover.

A. Place the outside strap on first and then the inside strap (see Figure 40).
B. Install the seatback cover bracket with the bolt.
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf)
NOTE:
- For a vehicle with side airbag, the side airbag may NOT be activated normally unless the seatback cover is securely installed.
- After installing the bracket, check that the strap is NOT twisted.

C. Engage the rubber wire to a hole of the front seatback frame with NEW hog rings as shown in Figure 41.

D. Using the hog ring pliers install the NEW hog rings and hooks.
NOTE:
- Be careful NOT to damage the cover.
- When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.
17. Install the armrest assembly with the bolt.
Torque: 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf)
Install the seat armrest cap.
18. Install the front seat side table with the 4 nuts.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
19. Install the front seat assembly.

A. Place the seat assembly in the cabin.
B. Connect the connectors under the seat assembly.
C. Tighten the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat assembly.
Torque: 37 Nm (375 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)
D. Tighten the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat assembly.
Torque: 37 Nm (375 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)
E. Install the 2 seat track covers.
20. Check SRS warning light.
21. Check seat slide adjuster locks.
22. Initialize the front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) (passenger seat only). Use applicable procedures.
23. Initialize power systems (windows, moon roof, etc). Refer to appropriate service bulletin.
24. Refer to the Airbag Disposal section to dispose of the side airbag assembly.
