Applicability
Introduction
Some customers may complain that the spare tire is difficult to remove or the cable is binding. Use the following procedure to address this concern.
Production Change Information
This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown.
Warranty Information
APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Parts Information
NOTE
Order all current part numbers listed in the parts information table to perform repair procedure.
Repair Procedure
Replace the spare tire carrier assembly using the procedures outlined below.
1. Lower and remove the spare tire from the carrier assembly.
2. Remove and replace the spare tire carrier assembly.
A. Remove the six nuts, plastic cover, and remove the spare tire carrier assembly (see Figure 1).
B. Replace the spare tire carrier assembly with a NEW part.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (5 ft*lbf)
3. Place spare tire on carrier and raise into place using the new pentagon shaped socket.
4. Place the new pentagon-shaped socket in the plastic pouch provided and place it with the jack/tools located in the rear of the vehicle (see Figure 2).
5. Place the new warning label over the existing label on the RH "B" pillar (see Figure 3).
