Applicability

Introduction

Some 2008 - 2009 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with a block heater may exhibit a MIL "ON" condition with DTC Poll B (Engine Coolant Temperature / Intake Air Temperature Correlation) after the vehicle cold soaks in extremely low temperatures. Installation of the engine block heater into the tight plug (freeze plug) location near cylinder No.2 will correct the condition.

Repair Procedure

1. Disconnect, remove, and discard the current block heater wire harness from cylinder No.1.

NOTE

Do NOT remove the original heater element from the engine block.





2. Install a NEW block heater and harness into the right (passenger) side tight plug of cylinder No.2 (see Figure 1).

Refer to the block heater manufacturer's instructions for the proper procedure.

3. Refill coolant level to the correct specification.

4. Check for coolant leaks and verify proper block heater operation.
