Cylinder Head
CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY (BANK 1)HINT:
- The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 2 successive steps.
- If any cylinder head bolts are broken or deformed, replace them.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads of the cylinder head bolts.
- Install the plate washer onto the cylinder head bolt.
- Using several steps, tighten each bolt uniformly with a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 36 Nm (367 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)
If any cylinder head bolts do not meet the torque specification, replace them.
NOTE: Do not drop the washers into the cylinder head.
- Mark the front side of each cylinder head bolt with paint.
- Retighten the cylinder head bolts 180° as shown.
- Check that the painted marks are now at 180° from the engine front.

HINT:
- The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 2 successive steps.

Torque: 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf)
CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
Maximum warpage: 0.10 mm (0.0039 in.)
CYLINDER HEAD SET BOLT
Using vernier calipers, measure the outside diameter of the bolt thread.
Standard outside diameter: 10.85 to 11.00 mm (0.4272 to 0.4331 in.)
Minimum outside diameter: 10.7 mm (0.421 in.)
INTAKE MANIFOLD
Install and tighten the 10 bolts uniformly in several steps.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf)
EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLIES
Set new gaskets to the cylinder heads with the oval shape facing forward.
Install the exhaust manifold with the 6 nuts. Tighten the nuts uniformly in several steps.
Torque: 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf)
CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (BANK 1)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf)
Torque: 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)
NO. 2 CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (BANK 1)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf)
Torque: 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)
NO. 3 CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (BANK 2)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf)
Torque: 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)
NO. 4 CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (BANK 2)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf)
Torque: 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf)
CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR SET BOLT
Torque: 100 Nm (1,020 kgf-cm, 74 ft-lbf)
