DISASSEMBLY

1. REMOVE NO. 3 TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (Removal)

2. REMOVE NO. 3 TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Removal)

3. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

4. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (Removal)

5. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

6. REMOVE FAN BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

7. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

8. REMOVE NO. 1 TIMING BELT COVER (Removal)

9. REMOVE NO. 1 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE (Removal)

10. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC / COMPRESSION (Removal)

11. REMOVE TIMING BELT (Removal)

12. REMOVE SPARK PLUG

(a) Remove the 2 nuts, housing and gasket.
15. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Removal)

17. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ASSEMBLY (Removal)

18. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 TIMING BELT PLATE LH (Removal)

19. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEY LH (Removal)

20. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 TIMING BELT PLATE RH (Removal)

21. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEY RH (Removal)

22. REMOVE NO. 1 TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

23. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

25. REMOVE CAMSHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) (Removal)

27. REMOVE VALVE LIFTER (Removal)

32. REMOVE SPARK PLUG TUBE GASKET





(a) Bend the 8 ventilation case claws of the cylinder head cover to an angle of 90° or more.
(b) Using a screwdriver, pry out the gaskets.

NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the cylinder head cover.
- Be careful not to damage the gasket when removing it, as the removed gasket needs to be reused when installing a new one.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

33. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING TUBE ASSEMBLY





(a) Mount the hexagonal portion of the camshaft in a vise.

- Be careful not to damage the camshaft.
- Do not loosen or remove the 4 bolts shown in the illustration. If any of them are loosened or removed, the backlash of the gear in the timing tube will go out of adjustment. In this case, replace the timing tube assembly with a new one.

(b) Remove the screw plug and seal washer.





(c) Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the bolt.
(d) Pull out the timing tube and drive gear assembly from the camshaft.





(e) Using SST and a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 4 bolts, drive gear and oil seal.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the timing tube.

34. REMOVE CAMSHAFT SUB-GEAR





(a) Mount the hexagonal portion of the camshaft in a vise.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the camshaft.





(b) Using SST, turn the sub-gear clockwise, and remove the service bolt.

(c) Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
(d) Remove the wave washer, sub-gear and gear spring.

HINT: Arrange the camshaft sub gears and gear spring (LH and RH).

35. REMOVE CYLINDER BLOCK WATER DRAIN COCK SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 drain cocks.
(b) Remove the 2 drain cock plugs.
36. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (Removal)

37. REMOVE OIL FILTER ASSEMBLY (Replacement)

38. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

39. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

40. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

41. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL PAN BAFFLE PLATE
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and baffle plate.
42. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN BAFFLE PLATE
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and baffle plate.
43. REMOVE NO. 3 OIL PAN BAFFLE PLATE
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and baffle plate.
44. REMOVE OIL STRAINER SUB-ASSEMBLY (Removal)

45. REMOVE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY (Removal)

46. REMOVE FRONT CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL





(a) Place the oil pump on a wooden block.
(b) Using a screwdriver and wooden block, pry out the oil seal.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the oil pump body.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

47. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL RETAINER





(a) Remove the 7 bolts.
(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal retainer by prying in between the oil seal retainer and crankshaft bearing cap.
(c) Remove the O-ring.
48. REMOVE REAR CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL





(a) Place the rear oil seal retainer on wooden blocks.
(b) Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap out the oil seal.
