3UR-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CYLINDER HEAD GASKET (for Bank 1):

INSTALLATION

1. INSPECT CYLINDER HEAD SET BOLT (Engine Unit)

2. INSPECT CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Testing and Inspection)

3. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD GASKET LH
(a) Clean the cylinder block with solvent.





(b) Place the cylinder head gasket on the cylinder block surface with the front face of the Lot No. stamp upward.

NOTE: Be careful of the installation direction.

4. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Place the cylinder head on the cylinder block.

NOTICE:
- Ensure that no oil is on the mounting surface of the cylinder head.
- Gently place the cylinder head in order not to damage the gasket with the bottom part of the head.

HINT: The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 3 progressive steps.

(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the cylinder head bolts.





(c) Step 1:
(1) Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts with the plate washers in several steps, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 36 Nm (367 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)





(d) Step 2:
(1) Mark each cylinder head bolt head with paint as shown in the illustration.
(2) Tighten the cylinder head bolts another 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.
(e) Step 3:
(1) Tighten the cylinder head bolts an additional 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.
(2) Check that the painted marks are now facing rearward.





(f) Install and uniformly tighten the 2 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)
5. INSTALL VALVE STEM CAP
(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the valve stem caps.
(b) Install the 16 valve stem caps to the cylinder head.
6. INSTALL VALVE LASH ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Inspect the valve lash adjuster (Engine Unit).
(b) Install the 16 lash adjusters to the cylinder head.

NOTE: Install the lash adjuster at the same place it was removed from.

7. INSTALL NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Apply engine oil to the lash adjuster tips and valve stem cap ends.





(b) Install the 16 valve rocker arms as shown in the illustration.
8. INSTALL CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP LH (Reassembly)

9. INSTALL CAMSHAFT HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Reassembly)

10. INSTALL NO. 3 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (Reassembly)

11. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Reassembly)

12. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER LH (Reassembly)

13. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY LH (Reassembly)

14. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER LH (Reassembly)

15. TIGHTEN CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR LH (Reassembly)

16. CHECK NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC / COMPRESSION (Reassembly)

17. INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the timing chain cover (Installation).
18. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (Installation)

19. INSTALL NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR (Installation)

20. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (Installation)

21. INSTALL FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL REAR LH (Installation)

22. INSTALL FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH (Installation)

23. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
(a) for Regular Cab Standard Deck:
Refer to the following procedures (Installation).
(b) except Regular Cab Standard Deck:
Refer to the following procedures (Installation).
24. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

NOTE: Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Repair Instruction - Initialization).

25. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK (Installation)

26. INSPECT IGNITION TIMING (Engine)

27. INSPECT ENGINE IDLE SPEED (Engine)
