2UZ-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CYLINDER HEAD: REPAIR
REPAIR
1. REPAIR INTAKE VALVE SEAT
NOTICE:
- Repair the seat while checking the seating position.
- Keep the lip free of foreign matter.
- Take off a cutter gradually to make the intake valve seat smooth.
(a) Using a 45° carbon cutter, resurface the valve seats.
HINT: Only remove the amount of metal necessary to clean the seats.
(b) If the seating is too high on the valve face:
Use 30° and 45° cutters to correct the seat.
(c) If the seating is too low on the valve face:
Use 60° and 45° cutters to correct the seat.
(d) Check that the seat contact is in the middle of the valve face and has the following width.
Standard width:
1.0 to 1.4 mm (0.0394 to 0.0551 in.)
(e) Hand-lap the valve and valve seat with an abrasive compound.
(f) Clean and check the valve seating position.
2. REPAIR EXHAUST VALVE SEAT
NOTICE:
- Repair the seat while checking the seating position.
- Keep the lip free of foreign matter.
- Take off a cutter gradually to make the intake valve seat smooth.
(a) Using a 45° carbon cutter, resurface the valve seats.
HINT: Only remove the amount of metal necessary to clean the seats.
(b) If the seating is too high on the valve face:

(c) If the seating is too low on the valve face:
