Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection

2UZ-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: DRIVE BELT:

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT

(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.
If any defect has been found, replace the belt.

HINT: Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable. If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be replaced.

(b) Check by hand that the belt fits properly in the ribbed grooves and has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the pulley.
2. INSPECT V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

(a) Check that the belt tensioner moves downward when the belt is pressed down at the point indicated in the illustration with approximately 98 N (10 kgf, 22.0 lbf) of force.

(b) Check that the arrow on the belt tensioner is within area "A".
If it is outside area "A", replace the fan and generator V belt.

HINT: When a new belt is installed, the arrow should be within area "B". If not, the fan and generator V belt is not installed correctly.
