Applicability

Introduction

Some 2007 - 2008 model year Tundra and 2008 Sequoia customers may complain of a tick/rattle noise from the passenger side of the instrument panel while driving on rough roads. The condition may also be worse when the weather is cold. A new instrument panel clip has been adopted to improve this condition. Use the following repair procedures to improve this condition.





Warranty Information

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

Repair Procedure





1. Remove the RH scuff plate by detaching the 6 claws and 3 clips.





2. Remove the RH cowl side trim board.





3. Remove the RH instrument side panel by detaching the 6 claws using a plastic pry tool.





4. Remove the RH lower instrument finish panel sub-assembly.

A. Remove the bolt.

B. Remove the 3 screws.

C. Detach the 3 claws and remove the finish panel.





5. Remove the RH front pillar garnish as shown.

A. Using a screwdriver detach the 2 claws on the assist grip plug and remove the 2 plugs.

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

B. Remove the 2 assist grip attaching bolts and remove the assist grip.

C. Detach the pillar garnish claws and remove the front pillar garnish.

D. Protect the curtain shield airbag to prevent damage by covering it with a cloth or nylon sheet. Make sure to secure the ends of the cover with adhesive tape.

Protect the curtain shield airbag as soon as the front pillar garnish is removed.





6. Remove the three bolts from the locations shown.





7. Remove the two passenger side lower airbag bolts.

CAUTION
Instrument panel components may have sharp edges that could cause physical injury.

NOTE
The airbag does not need to be removed.





8. From under the instrument panel remove the retaining bolt that holds the clip bracket to the instrument panel pad. The illustration shows the location of the clip and bracket under the instrument panel.





9. Have an assistant sit in the passenger seat and pull back on the Instrument panel approximately 1/2 inch.





10. With the instrument panel held back remove the clip and bracket.

Push the clip bracket forward to clear the locating pin and then pull down at location 1.

NOTE
If the clip and bracket doesn't come off in one piece, wiggle the clip off the cowl.





11. Install the new type of instrument panel clip on the metal cowl.

^ Be sure the new style clip is installed on the metal cowl correctly. When fully seated the clip will be difficult to pull oft the metal cowl.

^ Clip and bracket should be installed separately.

12. Reinstall the two lower airbag bolts.

Torque: 20 N.m (204 kg.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

13. Install the clip bracket and tighten the retaining bolt.

14. Reassemble all panels removed in reverse order.

15. Confirm repair.
