Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications

CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY

Place the 2 cylinder heads in position on the cylinder head gaskets.
Install the cylinder head bolts.





Install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts on one side of the cylinder head in several steps in the order shown in the illustration, then do the other side in the same way.

Torque 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf)





Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt head with paint.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts by 90° in the numerical order shown.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90°.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 180° angle to front.

CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

Install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts, and plate washers, in the order shown in the illustration.

Torque 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf)





Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt head with paint.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts by 90° in the order shown.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90°.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 180° angle to front.

CYLINDER HEAD SET BOLT

Standard outside diameter 9.810 to 9.960 mm (0.3862 to 0.3921 in.)
Minimum outside diameter 9.700 mm (0.3819 in.)

INTAKE MANIFOLD





Place the intake manifold on the cylinder heads.
Install and uniformly tighten the 6 bolts and 4 nuts in several steps.

Torque 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf)

CAMSHAFTS

Install the camshafts of the RH bank

Do not apply engine oil under the heads of the bearing cap bolts (A), (B) and (C).

Each bolt length is as follows:
94 mm (3.70 in.) for A with seal washer
G72 mm (2.83 in.) for B with seal washer
25 mm (0.98 in.) for C
55 mm (2.17 in.) for D
40 mm (1.57 in.) for E





Uniformly tighten the 22 bearing cap bolts in several steps, in the order shown in the illustration.
For bolt C - Torque 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf)
For others - Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf)

Install the camshafts of the LH bank

Do not apply engine oil under the heads of the bearing cap bolts (A), (B) and (C).

Each bolt length is as follows:
94 mm (3.70 in.) for A with seal washer
72 mm (2.83 in.) for B with seal washer
25 mm (0.98 in.) for C
55 mm (2.17 in.) for D
0 mm (1.57 in.) for E





Uniformly tighten the 22 bearing cap bolts in several steps, in the order shown in the illustration.

For bolt C - Torque 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf)
For others - Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf)

NO. 3 AND NO. 4 CAMSHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY

Do not apply engine oil under the heads of bearing cap bolts.

Each bolt length is as follows:
94 mm (3.70 in.) for A with seal washer
72 mm (2.83 in.) for B with seal washer

Do not apply engine oil under the heads of bearing cap bolts C.

Each bolt length is as follows:
25 mm (0.98 in.) for C
55 mm (2.17 in.) for D
40 mm (1.57 in.) for E





Uniformly tighten the 22 bearing cap bolts in several steps, in the order shown in the illustration.
For bolt C - Torque 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf)
For others - Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf)

CAMSHAFT TIMING TUBE ASSEMBLY

Torque 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf)

EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH





Be careful of the installation direction.

Install the exhaust manifold with 8 new nuts. Uniformly tighten the nuts in diagonally.

Torque 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft-lbf)
