Rear Window Defogger System Does Not Operate

WINDSHIELD / WINDOWGLASS: WINDOW DEFOGGER SYSTEM: Rear Window Defogger System does not Operate
- Rear Window Defogger System does not Operate

DESCRIPTION

When the rear window defogger switch, which is built into the air conditioning control assembly, is operated, the operation signals are transmitted to the air conditioning amplifier assembly through LIN. When the air conditioning amplifier assembly receives the signals, it turns on the DEFOGGER relay (Marking: RR DEF) to operate the rear window defogger.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FUSES (RR DEF)

(a) Remove the fusible link block assembly (RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE FUSIBLE LINK BLOCK ASSEMBLY (RR DEF FUSE)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT DEFOGGER RELAY (Marking: RR DEF)

(a) Remove the defogger relay (Marking: RR DEF) from the engine room relay block.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE DEFOGGER RELAY (Marking: RR DEF)
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Select the ACTIVE TEST, use Techstream to issue a control command, and then check the window defogger operation.

Air Conditioner:

Result:

A -- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM
B -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LIN COMMUNICATION LINE)

(a) Disconnect the D37 air conditioning amplifier connector.

(b) Disconnect the E10 air conditioning control connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

6. CONFIRM REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER OPERATION

(a) Turn the ignition switch on (IG), press the defogger switch, and check that the window defogger operates.

OK:

Window defogger system operates normally

NG -- REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY Removal

OK -- END

7. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Select the ACTIVE TEST, use Techstream to issue a control command, and then check the window defogger operation.

Air Conditioner:

(b) Check that operation sound of the DEFOGGER relay (Marking: RR DEF) is heard.

Result:

A -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE - ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK)
B -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY - ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK)
