B1660/43 - Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the front passenger airbag and front seat outer belt RH.

DTC B1660/43 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION

(a) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(b) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

HINT
Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator Diagnosis System.





Result:





B -- CHECK CONNECTORS
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) w/ Navigation system:

(1) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and navigation receiver assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT
If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(2) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and navigation receiver assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

(3) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

(d) w/o Navigation system:

(1) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and integration control and panel assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT
If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(2) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and integration control and panel assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

(3) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE WIRE HARNESS
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

(a) Connect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.





(b) w/ Navigation system:

Connect the connector to the navigation receiver assembly.

(c) w/o Navigation system:

Connect the connector to the integration control and panel assembly.

(d) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(e) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(f) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

OK:

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

NG -- CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN)
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.





(b) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(c) Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.

HINT
Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK Diagnosis System

5. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.





(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) w/ Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the navigation receiver assembly.

(d) w/o Navigation system:

Disconnect the connector from the integration control and panel assembly.

(e) Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

SST : 09843-18040

(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT)

(a) Disconnect SST from connector B.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.





(b) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

C -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

B -- REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY Removal

A -- REPLACE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY Removal

9. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) w/ Navigation system:

(1) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and navigation receiver assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT
If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(2) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and navigation receiver assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

(3) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

(d) w/o Navigation system:

(1) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and integration control and panel assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT
If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(2) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and integration control and panel assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

(3) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE WIRE HARNESS
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (OPEN)

(a) Connect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.





(b) Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

SST : 09843-18040

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)
OK -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT)

(a) Disconnect SST from connector B.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)
OK -- Continue to next step.

12. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Resistance:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)
OK -- Continue to next step.

13. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.





(b) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)
OK -- Continue to next step.

14. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE)

(a) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).





(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPLACE WIRE HARNESS (PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR - BATTERY) OR BATTERY
OK -- Continue to next step.

15. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.





(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) w/ Navigation system

Connect the connector to the navigation receiver assembly.

(d) w/o Navigation system

Connect the connector to the integration control and panel assembly.

(e) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(f) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(g) Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.

C -- REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY Removal

B -- REPLACE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY Removal
A -- Continue to next step.

16. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.





(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(e) Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(g) Turn the ignition switch off.

(h) Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(i) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.

HINT
Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

17. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)

(a) Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.





HINT
SST has already been inserted into connector B.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

OK -- REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

18. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)

(a) Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

OK -- REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

19. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

OK -- REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

20. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.





(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Disconnect the instrument panel wire from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.

(d) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(e) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(f) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

OK -- REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
