Data List / Active List

2GR-FXE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

1. DATA LIST

HINT
Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are for reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

(e) Warm up the engine.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, read the "Data List".

HINT
* *1: Excluding throttle valve opening percentage due to idle speed control.
* *2: Data List values are only displayed when performing the following Active Test: Control the VVT System (Bank 1, 2) and Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1, 2). For other Active Test, the Data List value will be 0.
* Normal condition: If no idling conditions are specified, the shift lever should be in N or P, and the A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off.

2. ACTIVE TEST

HINT
Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

(a) Warm up the engine.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, perform the "Active Test".

NOTICE:

*1:

* If the display of the Data List item Catalyst OT MF F/C item is Not Avl, perform this Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
* If the display of the Data List item Catalyst OT MF F/C item is Avail, perform this Active Test as described below.
(1) Stop the engine, turn the ignition switch to ON and turn Control the Cylinder #1 Fuel Cut (to Control the Cylinder #6 Fuel Cut) ON.
(2) Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
(3) Start the engine.

HINT
*2: While the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test is being performed, if the speed of one cylinder is more than the other cylinders, it can be determined that the compression pressure of that cylinder is lower than the other cylinders.

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.

3. Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

4. Start the engine and warm it up.

5. Turn the ignition switch off.

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.

7. Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

HINT
Do not start the engine.

8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Check the Cylinder Compression.

HINT
To display the entire Data List, press the pull down menu button next to Primary. Then select Compression.

9. Push the snapshot button to turn the snapshot function on.

HINT
Using the snapshot function, data can be recorded during the Active Test.

10. While the engine is not running, press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the Check the Cylinder Compression to ON.

11. Start the engine

HINT
Continue to crank the engine until the values change from the default value (51199 rpm).

12. Monitor the engine speed (Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to #6, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl) displayed on the Techstream.

NOTICE:
* Do not crank the engine continuously for 20 seconds or more.
* If it is necessary to crank the engine again after Check the Cylinder Compression has been changed to ON and the engine has been cranked once, press Exit to return to the Active Test menu screen. Then change Check the Cylinder Compression to ON and crank the engine.
* Use a fully-charged battery.

13. Stop cranking the engine, and then change "Check the Cylinder Compression" to OFF after the engine stops.

NOTICE:
If the Active Test is changed to OFF while the engine is being cranked, the engine will start.

14. Push the snapshot button to turn the snapshot function off.

15. Select "Stored Data" on the Techstream screen, select the recorded data and display the data as a graph.

HINT
If the data is not displayed as a graph, the change of the values cannot be observed.

16. Check the change in engine speed values.

HINT
As the data values of the Active Test return to their default values when cranking is stopped, the engine speed value of each cylinder cannot be observed. Therefore, it is necessary to use the data recorded with the snapshot function to check the engine speed values recorded during cranking.

3. SYSTEM CHECK

HINT
Performing a System Check enables the system, which consists of multiple actuators, to be operated without removing any parts. In addition, it can show whether or not any DTCs are set, and can detect potential malfunctions in the system. The System Check can be performed with the Techstream.

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Evaporative System Check.

(e) Perform the System Check by referring to the table below.
