A340F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
2. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY A340F Automatic Transmission
3. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
(a) Install the engine mounting insulator with the 4 bolts.
Torque : 65 Nm (663 kgf-cm, 48 ft-lbf)
4. INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET
(a) Install the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque : 28 Nm (286 kgf-cm, 21 ft-lbf)
5. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.
(b) Engage the splines of stator shaft and the stator while turning the torque converter clutch assembly.
HINT
If the stator shaft splines are difficult to engage with the stator splines, move the torque converter back approximately 10 mm (0.394 in.) and engage the splines while rotating the torque converter clutch.
(c) Turn the torque converter clutch assembly to engage the key of oil pump drive gear into the slot on the torque converter clutch assembly.
(d) Clean the torque converter clutch set bolt holes.
(e) Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure dimension "A" between the automatic transmission fitting surface of the engine and the torque converter fitting surface of the drive plate.

(f) Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure the dimension B shown in the illustration and check that dimension B is greater than dimension A, which was measured in step (e).
Standard:
B: 31.75 mm (1.250 in.) or more
NOTICE:
* Make sure to deduct the thickness of the straightedge.
* If the automatic transmission is installed to the engine with the torque converter clutch not sufficiently inserted, the torque converter clutch may be damaged.
6. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Confirm that the 2 knock pins are on the automatic transmission contact surface of the engine cylinder block before automatic transmission installation.

(b) Apply clutch spline grease to the round of the crankshaft contact surface with the torque converter centerpiece.

Clutch spline grease:
Toyota Genuine Clutch Spline Grease or equivalent
Maximum spread:
Approximately 1 g (0.0353 oz)
(c) Install the automatic transmission with the 8 bolts. Install bolt A together with the transfer breather bracket.
Bolt A, B - Torque : 71 Nm (724 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf)
Bolt C - Torque : 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf)
(d) Clean and degrease the 6 torque converter setting bolts.
(e) Apply a few drops of adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the tips of the 6 torque converter setting bolts.

Adhesive:
Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, three Bond 1324 or equivalent.
(f) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

(g) Install the 6 torque converter setting bolts.
Torque : 48 Nm (489 kgf-cm, 35 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
First install the black colored bolt, and then the remaining 5 silver colored bolts.
(h) Install the flywheel housing under cover.
7. CONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE
(a) Connect the transfer breather hoses to the breather bracket.
8. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY Installation
9. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTORS
(a) Connect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, 2 speed sensor connectors and transfer control side connector.
(b) Attach the connector clamp and 8 harness clamps.
NOTICE:
Clamp the transmission wire and transfer breather hose clamps to the sections of the transfer breather hoses marked with red paint.
(c) Tilt up the transmission.
10. INSTALL NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly with the 4 bolts and 4 nuts.
Torque : 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf)
(b) Install the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque : 19 Nm (189 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf)
11. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the transmission control cable bracket with a new clip, and connect the cable end to the control shaft lever with the nut.
Torque : 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
12. INSTALL MANIFOLD STAY
(a) Install the manifold stay with the 3 bolts.
Bolt A - Torque : 71 Nm (724 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf)
Bolt B - Torque : 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 33 ft-lbf)
Bolt C - Torque : 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf)
13. CONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET TUBE Installation
14. CONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE
(a) Using a union nut wrench, tighten the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube.
Torque : 34 Nm (347 kgf-cm, 25 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where a union nut wrench is combined with a torque wrench Service Precautions.
15. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Coat a new O-ring with Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV or equivalent and install it onto the oil filler tube.
(b) Install the oil filler tube with the 2 bolts.
Torque : 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
16. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL GAUGE SUB-ASSEMBLY
17. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
18. INSTALL PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for Access Cab)
19. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab)
20. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Installation
21. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(a) Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector and the oxygen sensor harness clamp.
(b) Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and the air fuel ratio sensor harness clamp.
22. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION A340F Automatic Transmission
23. INSTALL FRONT FENDER SEAL LH
(a) Install the front fender seal LH with the 5 clips.
24. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab) Installation
25. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Installation
26. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Torque : 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf)
27. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
28. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID A340F Automatic Transmission
29. INSPECT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK
30. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION A340F Automatic Transmission
