Applicability

Introduction

Some 2005 - 2011 MY Tacoma vehicles equipped with the R155 5-speed manual transmission may exhibit a rattle noise from the transmission assembly in neutral with the clutch pedal released. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm there is a rattle noise from the transmission assembly when the clutch pedal is fully released and the transmission is in neutral.

A. Is the noise coming from the transmission assembly?

Yes - Continue to question B.

No - This TSB does not apply. Continue diagnosis to locate the source of the noise.

B. Does the noise go away when the clutch pedal is fully depressed?

Yes - Go to step 2.

No - This TSB does not apply. Continue diagnosis to locate the source of the noise.

2. Replace the clutch disk. Replace the clutch cover if it is not stamped with "AISIN" on the outer edge. Confirm if the clutch cover requires replacement (see note).





NOTE
If the vehicle is currently equipped with an Aisin clutch cover it is not necessary to replace the clutch cover. Replace the clutch disk only. The manufacturer is stamped on the outer edge of the clutch cover assembly as shown in Figure 1.
