B1695/16 - Passenger Side Door Side Airbag Sensor Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The door side airbag sensor LH or RH consists of the safing sensor, the diagnostic circuit, the lateral deceleration sensor, etc.

If the center airbag sensor receives signals from the lateral deceleration sensor, it determines whether the SRS should be activated.

DTC B1690/15 or B1695/16 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the door side airbag sensor LH or RH circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(b) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(c) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(d) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(e) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

HINT
Codes other than past DTC B1690 and B1695 maybe output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor, the side airbag sensor RH and door side airbag sensor RH.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor RH.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side, the side airbag sensor RH side and door side airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT

(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(e) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(f) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor RH and door side airbag sensor RH.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BCR+) and 2 (BCR-) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from the connector B.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

B -- CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE

A -- CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH
C -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH

(a) Interchange the door side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

(h) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the door side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH

(a) Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

(a) Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire connector from the door wire RH.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BCR+) and 2 (BCR-) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE

OK -- REPLACE DOOR WIRE RH

8. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH

(h) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the door side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

9. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH

(h) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

10. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor, the side airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor LH.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side, the side airbag sensor LH side and door side airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

12. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT

(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(e) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(f) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BCL-) and 1 (BCL+) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from the connector B.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

B -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE

A -- CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

13. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

(a) Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

(h) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the door side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

14. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

(a) Interchange the side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

(a) Disconnect the floor wire connector from the door wire LH.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:

(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BCL+) and 2 (BCL-) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE

OK -- REPLACE DOOR WIRE LH

16. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

(h) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(i) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the door side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.
