DESCRIPTION
If the dimmer switch is turned to TAIL, HEAD or AUTO, the main body ECU sends a TAIL relay signal, panel light illumination signal, panel relay signal, and TAIL cancel OFF signal* to the combination meter via CAN communication. Then the meter and accessory meter become dim.
* *: w/ TAIL Cancel Switch
* TAIL cancel switch: When the headlights are illuminated and the TAIL cancel switch is turned on, the meter and accessory meter do not dim.

PROCEDURE
1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Result
B -- Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Service Precautions
A -- Continue to next step.
2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT)
(a) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List" Meter / Gauge System.
OK:
Light brightness can be changed within specified range by manual operation.
Combination Meter:
*: w/ TAIL Cancel Switch
NG -- INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT
OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Removal
3. INSPECT LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT
(a) Remove the light control rheostat Removal.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
w/o TAIL Cancel Switch
w/ TAIL Cancel Switch
NG -- REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT)
(a) Disconnect the J28 meter connector.
(b) Disconnect the L4 rheostat connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
w/o TAIL Cancel Switch
w/ TAIL Cancel Switch
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Removal
