Applicability

Introduction

Some 2007 - 2012 Tundra vehicles may exhibit a condition where the paint at the bottom seam of the tailgate is bubbling and corrosion is present. In some cases this may be due to water being trapped in the tailgate and not being able to drain properly. Follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to address these conditions.

This bulletin applies to:

^ ALL 2007-2009 Model year TMMI built Tundra vehicles.

^ ALL 2007-2011 Model year TMMTX built Tundra vehicles.

^ 2012 Model year TMMTX built Tundra vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm corrosion is present on bottom of tailgate.


2. Replace the tailgate.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

^ 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010 / 2011 / 2012 Tundra:
Vehicle Exterior - Door/Hatch - "Engine Hood / Door: Tall Gate: Removal"

^ 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010 / 2011 / 2012 Tundra:
Vehicle Exterior - Door/Hatch - "Engine Hood / Door: Tail Gate: Installation"

NOTE

Prior to installation, confirm application of Anti-Rust Agent (Cavity Wax) has been added to enhance corrosion prevention as outlined in CRIB # 182: Tundra Tailgate Corrosion Prevention.
