Fuel System
3UR-FBE FUEL: FUEL SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND FOR FUEL LEAK
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
NOTICE:
Do not start the engine.
(c) Turn the Techstream main switch on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump / Speed.
(e) Check the fuel pump operation.
(1) Check for pressure in the fuel inlet tube from the fuel line. Check that the sound of fuel flowing in the fuel tank can be heard.
If there is no sound, check the integration relay, fuel pump, ECM and wiring connector.
(f) Check for fuel leaks.
(1) Check that there are no fuel leaks after performing maintenance anywhere on the system.
If there are fuel leaks, repair or replace parts as necessary.
2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
(a) Check that the battery voltage is 11 to 14 V.
(b) Perform the "DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE" procedures Service Precautions.
(c) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
(d) Remove the fuel pipe clamp from the fuel tube connector.
(e) Pinch and pull the fuel tube (fuel tube connector) to disconnect it.
CAUTION:
* Always read the precautions Service Precautions before disconnecting the fuel tube connector (quick type).
* The fuel tube may spray fuel as a result of the remaining pressure. Do not allow fuel to be sprayed in the engine compartment.
(f) Install SST (pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.
SST : 09268-45100
09268-41260
09268-41270
09268-41250
95336-08070
96135-51300
SST : 09268-31012
09268-41500
(g) Wipe off any gasoline.
(h) Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
(i) Operate the fuel pump.
(1) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(2) Start the engine.
(3) Turn the Techstream main switch on.
(4) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the Fuel Pressure Switching Valve / High.
(5) Measure the fuel pressure.
Standard fuel pressure:
370 to 430 kPa (3.77 to 4.38 kgf/cm2, 53.7 to 62.4 psi)
If the pressure is higher than the specification, replace the fuel pressure regulator (for high pressure).
If the pressure is below the specification, check the fuel hoses and connections, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator (for high pressure), fuel pressure switching valve, and fuel tubes for clogs.
(6) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the Fuel Pressure Switching Valve / Low.
(7) Measure the fuel pressure.
Standard fuel pressure:
270 to 330 kPa (2.75 to 3.37 kgf/cm2, 39.2 to 47.9 psi)
If the pressure is higher than the specification, check the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure switching valve.
If the pressure is below the specification, check the fuel hoses and connections, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator, and fuel tubes for clogs.
(j) Stop the engine.
(k) Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.
Standard fuel pressure:
147 kPa (1.5 kgf/cm2, 21 psi) or more
If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and/or injectors.
(l) After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST and the fuel tube connector to prevent gasoline from spraying.
(m) Reconnect the fuel tube (fuel tube connector).
(n) Check for fuel leaks.
(1) Check that there are no fuel leaks after performing maintenance anywhere on the system.
If there are fuel leaks, repair or replace parts as necessary.
3. INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SWITCHING VALVE OPERATION
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Start the engine and warm it up.
(c) Turn the Techstream main switch on.
(d) Check the "Short FT" value in the Data List before and after activating the fuel pressure switching valve by performing the Active Test.
HINT
* Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the Fuel Pressure Switching Valve.
* Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Short FT.
Standard value:
When comparing before and after activating the fuel pressure switching valve, the "Short FT" value in the Data List changes by 10% or more.
If the value is outside the standard, perform a fuel pressure inspection. There may be an operation malfunction or clog in the fuel pressure switching valve, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure regulator (for high pressure) or fuel tubes.
