Applicability
Introduction
Some 2010 - 2012 model year Tundra vehicles equipped with column shift may intermittently exhibit a condition where it is difficult to remove the key from the ignition with the shifter in the Park position. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition.
Is the key sometimes difficult to remove from the ignition with the column shifter in the Park position?
^ YES - Replace the transmission control switch. Go to step 2.
^ NO - This bulletin does NOT apply, refer to the Repair Manual for further diagnosis.
2. Remove the shift lever assembly.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
3. Remove the three wire guides and wire harness clamp from the harness. (See Figure 1.)
4. Carefully insert SST 00002-217958 or a thin bladed screwdriver, and release the connector housing retainer and locking lug of terminals 5, 6, and 12 of the 14 pin connector. Remove the terminals from the rear of the connector. (See Figure 2.)
5. Remove the transmission control switch.
Remove the 2 screws and the switch from the column shift control shift lever retainer.
6. Separate the NEW transmission control switch.
Carefully insert SST 00002-217958 or a thin bladed screwdriver, and release the connector housing retainer and locking lug of terminals 5, 6, and 12. Remove the terminals from the rear of the new transmission control switch connector. The new 14 pin connector and key interlock solenoid connector can be discarded. (See Figure 5.)
7. Install the NEW switch with the 2 screws to the Figure 6. column shift control shift retainer.
8. Securely connect wire terminals 5, 6, and 12 to the original transmission control switch connector and re-seat the connector housing retainer. (See Figure 7.)
9. Install three new wire guides and wire harness clamp. (See Figure 8.)
10. Install the shift lever assembly.
