1GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P0017, P0019: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)

DESCRIPTION

Refer to DTC P0335 SFI System.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM checks valve timing (VVT learned value) on the exhaust side while the engine is running at a low speed in order to monitor the gap between the current and target valve timing on the exhaust side. The VVT learned value is calculated from the positions of the camshaft and crankshaft. The camshaft will come to the most retarded position when the engine is running at a low speed. If the camshaft position is normal, the VVT learned value should be within the specified range. If the VVT learned value is not within the specified range, the ECM determines this to be a malfunction.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0017 AND P0019)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.

(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Code.

(d) Read the DTCs.

Result

HINT
If any DTCs other than P0017 or P0019 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

B -- GO TO DTC CHART SFI System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT)
