2nd Row Tip-Up Style Seat Lower Cushion Excessive Movement

Applicability

Introduction

Some Sienna vehicles may exhibit a condition where the left hand (driver's side) middle row seat with the tip-up style lower seat cushion has excessive up and down movement. While some seat movement is a normal characteristic of the design, this bulletin will help identify excessive movement and provide steps to address this condition.

Inspection Procedure

1. Confirm amount of lower seat cushion movement.

A. Latch the lower seat cushion into place.

B. Apply pressure down on the seat cushion to verify amount of movement in the lower seat cushion.





2. While applying pressure, measure the amount of movement in the lower cushion assembly.

A. Apply tape to the front edge of the cushion.

B. Draw a reference line on tape.

C. Using a metric ruler, measure vertical movement of the lower cushion.

Repair Procedure 1: Shim Installation





1. Tip up lower cushion to gain access to the inboard seat support cushion.

2. Remove the inboard seat support cushion and screw.





3. Install the 3 mm shim to the bottom of the inboard seat support cushion and reinstall the seat support cushion and screw.

4. Measure the seat movement per the Inspection Procedure.

5. Confirm proper seat operation.

Repair Procedure 2: Seat Frame Replacement

1. Replace the lower seat frame assembly.

2. Measure lower cushion movement per the Inspection Procedure at the beginning of this bulletin.

3. Confirm proper seat operation.
