Scan Tool Testing and Procedures
NOTES:
- Tools required:
- Multimeter US 1119 (Fluke 83 or equivalent)
- Test light VAG 1527 or equivalent
- Test box VAG 1598 with adapter cable VAG 1598/8
- Test box VAG 1598 connector pin assignment is identical to the instrument cluster contact pin assignment.
- If specifications are achieved, check printed circuit foil with connections and components.
- If specifications are not achieved, check wiring according to wiring diagram,
CAUTION: If wiring to instrument cluster is damaged, replace the complete harness. DO NOT repair.
Test prerequisites:
- Battery voltage OK.
- Relevant fuses OK.
1 - Instrument cluster
2 - Test box VAG 1598 with connecting lead -3-
4 - Multimeter US 1119 (Fluke 83 or equivalent)
5 - Adapter cable VAG 1598/8
6 - instrument cluster wiring harness
- Fold down relay plate cover.
- Pull multi-pin connector off from rear of instrument cluster -1-.
- Connect test box VAG 1598 with adapter cable VAG 1598/8 to instrument cluster and detached wiring harness (plug must be felt to engage).
Instrument cluster > 05.96, multi-pin connector terminal assignments
1 - To coolant level indicator sensor
2 - Terminal 31, ground
3 - Terminal 31, ground
4 - Signal from speed sensor on instrument cluster -G54-
5 - From oil pressure switch 1.8/1.4 or 0.9 bar
6 - Oil pressure switch 0.3 bar
7 - Terminal 1/ Terminal W or RPM signal from Digifant Engine Control Module
8 - Terminal 30, battery positive
9 - Terminal 58b, illumination
10 - Terminal 15
11 - Vacant
12 - Generator warning light, terminal 61
13 - Brake, handbrake/seat belt warning light
14 - Glow period warning light
15 - Fuel gauge
16 - Turn signal warning light, left
17 - Coolant temperature gauge
18 - Turn signal warning light, right
19 - High beam warning light
20 - Automatic transmission selector range display
