Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Obtain audio coded anti-theft code, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove distributor cap and position aside, then disconnect distributor wiring.
3. Ensure flywheel is at TDC position, camshaft timing mark is aligned, and distributor rotor points toward cylinder No. 1 marking on distributor housing.
4. If alignment cannot be achieved, engine re-timing may be required.
5. Remove distributor hold-down bolts, then the distributor.

REFITTING

Timing Marks:





Engine Installed
- Position flywheel at TDC as shown.

Timing Marks:





Engine Removed
- Align marking on vibration damper with marking on lower toothed belt guard (arrow).





- Align mark on camshaft sprocket with marking on rear toothed belt guard (arrow).





- Turn rotor so that it points to the cylinder number 1 marking on distributor housing.
- Insert distributor into engine (watch out for nearby components and obstructions).
- Clean distributor cap and inspect for cracks, tracking etc. before installing, replace if necessary.
- Start engine and let idle.
- Check ignition timing, adjust if necessary.
