Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Description and Operation
PURPOSE AND OPERATIONThe Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is an NTC thermistor. Its resistance decreases as engine coolant temperature increases.
The engine coolant temperature sensor signal provides the Digifant control module information for the following functions:
^ Cold-start enrichment
^ Acceleration enrichment (over the full temperature range)
^ After-start enrichment (over the full temperature range)
^ Deceleration fuel shut-off
^ Idle air control during cold start

SIGNAL APPLICATION
Coolant temperature sensor signals are required as a correction factor for ignition timing, injection time, and idle speed stabilization.
If the Engine Coolant temperature sensor fails, a substitute value of 80°C (176°F) is stored in Engine Control Module (ECM) memory.
