Tailgate, Removing/Installing

- Remove trim See Body and Frame, Interior Trim.
- Disconnect connectors for rear window heating, license plate light, rear window wiper motor and central locking motor, if applicable, remove wiring from tailgate.
- Support tailgate.
- Lift locking clip -1- with screwdriver and pull gas-filled struts off ball pins on both sides.


NOTE: Do not pry locking clip -1- completely out of ball socket, otherwise clip will be damaged


- Remove Phillips screws -2- from hinges and remove tailgate.
- If a new tailgate is installed, it must be adjusted See 'Adjustments.'
Tightening torque:
Phillips screw -2- = 19 Nm (14 ft lb)
