CAUTION!
Before working on the electrical system, obtain radio security code and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap



1 - Air intake grill
2 - Air intake duct, front (under hood)

- Removing and installing See Fig. 1
3 - Seal
4 - Air intake duct, rear (on bulkhead)

- Removing and installing See Fig. 1
5 - Right air duct
- Removing, first remove glove box
6 - Instrument panel
7 - Right air outlet
8 - Fresh air blower switch -E9-
9 - Heater / fresh air control plate

- Removing and installing (vehicles without A/C) See Fig. 3
10 - Defroster duct
- To remove, first remove heater box/evaporator housing
11 - Center air duct
- To remove, first remove heater box/evaporator housing
12 - Center air outlet adaptor
Removing:
- Remove radio
- Remove center air outlet
13 - Center air outlet
- Removing See Fig. 4
14 - Fresh air blower -V2-
- Removing See Fig. 5
15 - Fresh air blower series resistance with fuse -N24-
- Removing, first remove glove box
- Removing See Fig. 5
16 Heater/evaporator - housing
- Removing See Fig. 8
- Installing evaporator water drain valve
17 - Cover
18 - Footwell air outlet console

- Removing See Fig. 6
19 - Heater/fresh air control assembly
- Removing and installing See Fig. 3

Removing:
- Remove fuse/relay panel cover
- Remove footwell air outlet cover and console
- Separate and remove air duct
23 - Defroster outlet
- Carefully pry out with screwdriver
24 - Heater control valve
- Removing See Fig. 7
25 - Heater (coolant) hoses
26 - Clip

Removing

- Remove screws -arrows- and remove rear duct
- Remove screws from hood and remove front duct
- Install in reverse order of removal

- Using a screwdriver, carefully pry out pivoting vent -2-
- Remove screw from center of outlet
- Remove air outlet -1-

Removing

- Remove levers -4-
- Remove control plate -3-
- Remove screws from instrument panel -2-
- Push control assembly -1- (cables attached) forward and down to bottom of instrument panel
- Remove control cables and remove heater/fresh air control

Installing

- Attach cables to heater/fresh air control assembly
- Install in reverse order of removal

- Using a screwdriver, carefully pry out pivoting vents -2-
- Remove screws from center of each vent opening
- Remove center air outlet -1-

CAUTION!
Before working on the electrical system, obtain radio security code and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.



Removing series resistor -1-

- Remove harness connector from series resistor
- Remove screw -2- and remove series resistor

Removing fresh air blower -3- (with heater box removed)

- Disengage retaining tab -4- and turn fresh air blower in direction of -arrow-
- Removing fresh air blower -3- (with instrument panel and heater box installed)
- Remove glove box
- Remove harness connector from series resistor
- Remove right air duct
- Disengage retaining tab -4-, turn fresh air blower in direction of -arrow- and remove from housing
- Move fresh air blower to center of instrument panel and remove

- Remove cover -1-
- Detach and remove footwell air outlet console -2-

- Remove clip -1- and remove cable end -2- from lever
- Clamp coolant hoses near valve
- Remove spring clamps from coolant hoses and remove coolant hoses from valve
- Remove valve


NOTE:
- Release coolant system pressure and drain coolant before beginning repair.
- Refill with coolant after installing/replacing control valve.

NOTE:
For illustration purposes, heater box/evaporator housing is shown with the instrument panel removed.
1 - Heater box/evaporator housing
2 - Rubber grommet
3 - Screws


NOTE: Plug heater core outlets to prevent coolant spills in the passenger compartment during heater box/evaporator housing removal.


Removing

- Remove glove box
- Remove right air duct
- Remove air intake duct, rear (on bulkhead)
- Remove center air outlet and center air duct (if equipped)
- Loosen and remove heater/fresh air control cables from housing
- Remove harness connector from fresh air blower series resistor
- Remove footwell air outlet console and cover
- Remove coolant hoses from heater core and plug connections
- Loosen and remove cable at heater control valve
- Remove screws -3-


NOTE: The lower screw is located on the bulkhead beneath the engine compartment trim.
