On Board Diagnostics (OBD)
Function
The ABS control module -J104- is located in the engine compartment near the battery and is equipped with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory. The On Board Diagnostic (OBD) Data Link Connectors (DLC) are located on the left side of the instrument panel below the heated rear window switch.
Up to 3 DTCs can be stored; in some cases the malfunction type is indicated. ABS control in the control module is then switched off; at the same time the instrument panel ABS warning light illuminates. Conventional brake system remains operational.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code Memory (DTC) must always be checked before beginning OBD. In some cases, the ABS Warning Light -K47- goes out after the ignition is switched off, although the DTC memory is maintained.
An intermittent DTC (e.g. loose connection), is also stored. If the DTC no longer exists after the ignition is switched on again, then the ABS warning light goes out after approx. 2 seconds.
If the DTC is not registered again after the ignition is switched on 50 times, the relevant DTC memory is automatically erased.
Perform "Checking Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory" after initiating On Board Diagnostic (OBD) via the VAG 1551 Scan Tool or VAG 1552 Scan Tool, but only if the vehicle is not moving and is in the "rapid data transfer' mode. Testing and Inspection
OBD is aborted if vehicle is moved at a speed of more than 2.5 km/h (1.56 mph).
ABS is not operational during OBD.
DTC information displayed is used in conjunction with a DTC table which has information on possible DTC causes.
