Tightening torque for vehicles with all wheel drive:
- 150 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)

All-wheel-drive vehicles
^ Loosen hex bolt for drive axle when vehicle is standing on its wheels (risk of accident).

Continuation for all vehicles
^ Remove wheel and raise vehicle.

Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles
^ Remove threaded connection for wheel bearing connection.

All-wheel-drive vehicles
^ Remove drive axle.

Continuation for all vehicles
^ Remove ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.

^ Remove parking brake cable at brake caliper.

Note: Be careful not to damage parking brake boot when removing and installing cable.

^ Remove brake caliper and hang on body using tie wire.
^ Remove brake disc and backing plate.

Note: Place VAG 13831A transmission lifter underneath (danger of accident if parts fall off when ejecting wheel hub and wheel bearing).

^ Pull wheel hub out from control arm. Remove securing ring.

^ Pull wheel bearing out of control arm.

^ Remove bearing inner race from wheel hub.
Only use puller with tension bracket, e.g. -A204/2 Kukko puller (standard).

^ Pull wheel bearing into control arm up to stop.
^ Install securing ring.

^ Pull in wheel hub up to stop.

Rest of installation is the reverse of removal.

Removing
All-wheel-drive vehicles
^ Loosen hex bolt for drive axle when vehicle is standing on its wheels (risk of accident).

Continuation for all vehicles
^ Remove wheel and raise vehicle.

Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles
^ Remove threaded connection for wheel bearing connection.

All-wheel-drive vehicles
^ Remove drive axle.

Continuation for all vehicles

^ Drill out blind rivets -arrows-.
^ Remove cover plate -1-.
^ Remove cover plate -2-.

Note: Place VAG 13831A transmission lifter underneath (danger of accident if parts fall off when ejecting wheel hub and wheel bearing).

Pulling out wheel hub

^ Install separating device -1-.

Installation position: Install separating device so that the flat side (rear side) contacts the control arm at three contact points.

^ Attach bell (2), hollow piston cylinder (3) with tie bolt, and special nut (4).
^ Pull out wheel hub while holding device securely.

^ Remove securing ring.

Pulling out wheel bearing

^ Attach pressure piece (1) with collar to bearing, pressure sleeve (2) with arrow to wheel bearing housing, hollow piston cylinder (3) with tie bolt and special nut (4).
^ Pull out wheel bearing by actuating pump.

Pull bearing inner race off hub

^ Attach separator (1) behind bearing inner ring (2).

Installation position: Beveled part of blades faces bearing inner ring.
^ Put on bell (3) and hollow piston cylinder (4) with tie bolt, screw on with special nut (5), and pull off bearing inner ring.

Pressing in wheel bearing
Installation position: Greater inside diameter of wheel bearing faces out.

^ Put wheel bearing (1), pressure piece (2) (put collar into bearing), and hollow piston cylinder (3) with tie bolt on wheel bearing housing.
^ Attach pressure piece (4) with angles toward wheel bearing housing and special nut (5) from inside.
^ Press in wheel bearing by actuating pump.
^ Install securing ring.

Pressing in wheel hub

^ Put wheel hub (1) and hollow piston cylinder (2) with tie bolt onto wheel bearing.
^ Attach pressure piece (3) with collar to special nut (4) from inside.
^ Press in wheel hub by actuating pump.
