Vehicle Damage Warnings
CAUTION:
^ Testing, removing, installing and repair work may only be performed by trained Service department personnel.
^ Always disconnect the battery ground strap before working on airbag related systems.
^ No waiting time is necessary after disconnecting the battery.
^ When connecting the airbag system to a voltage source, there must be no person inside the vehicle.
^ Any time the battery has been disconnected it will be necessary to reestablish basic settings for the Engine Control Module (ECM) and, on vehicles with automatic transmission, for the Transmission Control Module (TCM), using VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).
^ On vehicles equipped with anti-theft radios, make sure you know the radio activation code before you disconnect the battery.
^ The airbag units should be installed immediately after removing them from their packaging.
^ If the work on the airbag system is interrupted, the airbag unit should again be placed in its packaging. Do not leave the airbag unit unattended!
^ If the airbag unit or the airbag control module has been dropped from a height of 0.5 meter (19.7 inch) or more, DO NOT install.
^ Airbag units which have been removed should be stored so that the padded side is facing up.
^ Always replace any airbag system component that has been mechanically damaged (example: dented or cracked).
^ Airbag units which have NOT been activated should be marked and returned to the manufacturer for disposal (use airbag unit transport container).
