Upper Ball Joint
Special Tools and Equipment
^ 40-105 thrust piece
^ 3412 pressure piece
^ 1 - 20/10 Kukko two arm puller
^ 3 - 204/2 Kukko puller
^ 4 - 128/2 Kukko ball joint separator
Removing
^ Relieve torsion bar, refer to Torsion Bar.
^ Loosen hex bolt for drive axle/wheel hub when vehicle is standing on its wheels.
^ Unbolt brake caliper and hang using wire.
^ Separate lower connection wheel bearing housing/ball joint.
1 - Use socket head wrench 14 (e.g. Hazet 990)
^ Remove bolt for shock absorber and coupling rod/stabilizer.
^ Mark position of eccentric bushing to wheel bearing housing (otherwise camber adjustment will be necessary).
^ Unbolt nut for upper ball joint.
^ Press off tie rod from steering knuckle.
a - Tie rod end puller (standard), e.g. 128/2 Kukko
^ Unbolt securing bolt for eccentric washer from wheel bearing housing.
^ Remove wheel bearing housing.
^ Pull off eccentric bushing as shown in illustration.
A - Standard puller, e.g. 204/2 Kukko
^ Pry out securing ring using screwdriver.
^ Install puller -A- (standard, e.g. 204/2 Kukko using tension bracket) as shown in illustration and press out joint.
Installing
^ Insert ball joint into control arm.
A - two-arm puller e.g. Kukko 20/2 with 2150 hook.
^ Pull in ball joint up to stop.
^ Insert new securing ring.
^ Bolt upper ball joint to wheel bearing housing.
1 - Insert hex socket wrench (7 mm)
Note: When tightening nut, counter-hold using insert hex socket wrench and press wheel bearing housing with eccentric washer upward.
