Models Produced From January 1996
NOTE:
^ Removing and installing transmissions in vehicles produced from January 1996, also refer to Models Produced Up To December 1995 for complete procedure. The information below is supplemental.
^ Beginning in January 1996 the EuroVan is produced with a longer front end. If the transmission is to be removed or installed, note the following:
^ Special tools are required -supports 10-222 A/6 and additional hook 10-222 A/7
^ Subframe and transmission mount have been modified (self aligning mount).
^ Output to right drive shaft operates through a free-wheel drive flange.
^ Support frames 3250 can no longer be used.
Removal
- Raise vehicle and measure projection of nut thread to end of threaded rod -A- and record measurement.
- Remove tension on torsion bar with special tool 3257. refer to Steering and Suspension.
- Remove bracket -A- of bearing for right drive flange -arrows,
- Turn steering to right side and remove drive flange -B-.
- The transmission support 3282 is used with adjustment plate 3282/22 for removing the automatic transmission 01P
- Move transmission jack VAG 1383 A, or equivalent, with transmission support 3282 and adjustment plate 3282/22 into place and support transmission.
- Attach transmission support and adapter to hole in torque converter cover plate -arrow-
Modified Rear Transmission Mount
- The rear transmission mount is a self-aligning mount.
Tighten to:
Bolt -A- 80 Nm (59 ft lb) + 90° (1/4 turn)
Bolt -B- 200 Nm (148 ft lb)
Modified Left Transmission Mount
- Remove complete transmission mount by removing nuts -11- and bolts -2- after removing transmission.
Tighten to:
Nuts -1- 55 Nm (41 ft lb)
Bolts -2- 50 Nm (37 ft lb) + 90° (1/4 turn)
- Remove bolt connecting engine/transmission -arrow,
- Attach bracket 3407 to engine.
- The radiator and radiator support are not folded forward as with earlier versions (with 5-cylinder engine).
- The engine is held with 10-222A in connection with supports 10-222A/6 and additional hook 10-222A/7 if necessary.
