Component Tests and General Diagnostics




Required for troubleshooting:
- Electrical Circuit Tester VW1466
- Valid wiring diagram

Before starting troubleshooting, battery negative terminal (-) must be securely tighted.

Prerequisite:
- S5 Fuse 5 (15A) located on relay-panel OK !
- Windshield wiper in end (park) position !


CAUTION!
DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks. Always use connector test kit VW 1594 to make the necessary electrical connections.



Preparation:
- Remove cover from the relay-panel
- Remove Wiper/Washer Intermittent Relay J31 (production control number 99), from relay-panel, location 8
- Remove Rear Window Wiper/Washer Relay J30 (production control number 174), from relay-panel, location 2
- Insert test adapter VW1466/5 into relay-panel, location 8
- Connect VW1466 to test adapter

Troubleshooting procedure:
- Perform test steps according to table below.
- If specified value/test result is obtained, proceed to next step (test result OK)
- If specified value/test result is not obtained, use table for troubleshooting and repair
- Use valid wiring diagram for wire testing
- Disconnect test leads after each step

If malfunction has not been eliminated after performing all steps, replace Wiper/Washer Intermittent Relay J31 !

After repairing malfunction, perform functional test of Wiper/Washer System.
