VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST), Connecting and Selecting Functions
All functions previously performed with the VAG1551 can also be performed using the VAS5051 tester in operating mode "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis":
Special Tools and Equipment
^ VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool
^ VAG1551/3B cable
Notes:
^ During On Board Diagnostic (OBD),the ABS function is switched off in the control module.
^ DTC memory can be erased after repair has been completed and DTC memory has been checked.
^ Unclip cover for Data Link Connector (DLC) from instrument cluster.
^ Connect VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST) to Data Link Connector (DLC) using VAG1551/3B cable with ignition switched off.
^ Connect VAS5051.

Notes: If nothing is indicated on the display, check the harness connector for On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Refer to Electrical Test; Test steps 8 and 9.
^ Depending on the program, additional operating information can be printed out by pressing the HELP button of the VAG1551 scan tool.
^ The -> Button is used for advancing through the program sequence.
^ The PRINT button is used for switching on the printer (lamp in button lights up).
^ Switch on ignition.
^ Switch printer on via the print-button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
^ Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 01.
Indicated on display:
^ Press buttons -0- and -3- (03 is the address word for "brake electronics").
Indicated on display:
^ Press -Q- button to confirm input.
and then, for example, the information is indicated:
Indicated:
^ The control module part number (7D0 614 111 B).
^ The system identification (ABS/EDL 5.3).
^ The version number of the control module (e.g. D00).
^ Press -> button.
Indicated on display; (function selection, e.g. 02 "Check DTC Memory").
^ Press the -HELP- button to print out an overview of all of the possible malfunction causes.
^ After repairing potential malfunction cause, re-enter address word 03 for "Brake electronics" and press -Q- button to confirm.
If "Control module not responding!" is indicated again:
Indicated on display:
^ Electrical test, carry out steps 1 and 2.
Malfunctions occurred while checking the control module identification (possible external sources?).
^ Check diagnostic cable as well as the voltage supply and Ground (GND) connection for the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-, Electrical Test.
^ After repairing potential malfunction cause, re-enter address word 03 for "Brake electronics" and press -Q button to confirm.
