Checking Dual Horns
NOTE: If only one horn works, check the wiring to the inoperative horn first. See applicable wiring diagram.
Required for troubleshooting:
- Electrical Circuit Tester VW1466
- Connector Test Kit VW1594
- Valid wiring diagram
Before starting troubleshooting, battery negative terminal (-) must be securely tighted.
Prerequisite:
- S13 Fuse 13 (10A), located on fuse/relay-panel OK !
CAUTION!
DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks. Always use connector test kit VW 1594 to make the necessary electrical connections.
Preparation:
- Remove driver's side lower instrument panel cover
- Remove dual horn relay J4 (production control number 53) from relay location 11
- Insert test adapter VW1466/3 into relay location 11
- Connect VW1466 to test adapter
Troubleshooting procedure:
- Perform test steps according to table below.
- If specified value/test result is obtained, proceed to next step (test result OK)
- If specified value/test result is not obtained, use table for troubleshooting and repair
- Use valid wiring diagram for wire testing
- Disconnect test leads after each step
If malfunction has not been eliminated after performing steps 1 to 3, replace dual horn relay J4 !
After repairing malfunction, perform test of dual horns.
Possible causes if specified value/test result was not obtained:
