Ignition Keys, Adaptation (Function 10)

Ignition Keys, Adaptation (function 10)

NOTE:
- If new or additional ignition keys are required, they must be adapted to the control module for anti-theft immobilizer.
- Ignition keys for immobilizers of the 3rd generation are marked with an imprinted "W3"! For definitive immobilizer differentiation, the function "Check control module version" should always be performed.
- Observe procedure for replacement of lock set and instrument cluster.
- All ignition keys, including existing keys, must be re-adapted.
- The number of adapted keys is indicated after selecting the adaptation function.
- If only one key is adapted, the vehicle can be started immediately using this key. If more keys are adapted, the vehicle can only be started immediately using the last key adapted.
- The Work Shop Code (WSC) of the VAG 1551 is stored in the control module for immobilizer during adaptation of ignition keys.
- Adaptation can be interrupted using the "C" button of the VAG 1551 scan tool.

Adaptation of ignition keys is automatically terminated when:
- The number of keys to be adapted has been reached.
- The ignition is switched on using a key that is already adapted and remains switched on for more than one second (DTC stored).
- The allotted adaptation time of 60 seconds following adaptation of first key is exceeded (DTC stored).

NOTE:
- Proper completion of ignition key adaptation can be checked via OBD function 08 "Read measuring value block".
- Subsequent adaptation attempts are only possible after 2 minutes with the ignition off.
